CAT 01-25 Update

Some members of the team got to experience some fishing last weekend. They caught around 75 yellow fin tuna and blue runners. Unfortinatly nothing big yet but it helped off set the high cost of food for a couple of days. EA2 Krepes taught the team how to roll sushi, and the rest we put on the grill or fried.

And the team is gearing up for a big inspection this week.

CAT 01-25

Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ONE arrived in Palau on 12 June after a long journey from their home in Gulfport, MS. After turn over with the Air Force they took over Camp Katuu and raised the Seabee flag on 19 June 2009.
Since arriving they have settled into their new home and started exploring their new surroundings. Most have been out on the boat to look at the beautiful rock islands and had a chance to sample some of the unique dinning experiences around the island.
The CAT (civic action team) has a differnt mission than a normal Seabee team would have on deployment. They provide community construction to support Palau. The Seabees manage a apprentice Training program to assist and train the local population in general construction skills. The Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) in camp and outlying areas provide health education and medical treatment for residents. They also participate in Community Relations (COMREL) to provide a positive U.S. presence and continue a great relationship between the two Countries.
They have recently started a bathroom/shower facility on the southern island of Anguar, started the new diesel tank project in camp, put a new roof on one of the barracks, completed numerous MEDCAPs around the islands, and completed a COMREL project for the Airai elementry school.
